Flexi Domains 1.0 Help

Flexi Domains

Flexi Domains manages your domain name portfolio across registrars, and manages the DNS and TLS certificates for those domains in your own AWS account.

That second part is worth understanding early. Flexi Domains does not host your DNS. It reads and writes the zones in an AWS account you own, using a role you create and whose permissions you choose. Certificates are issued in your account too. If you stop using Flexi Domains tomorrow, your zones, records and certificates stay exactly where they are.

What you can see depends on your access

Everyone gets domain names, registrars, top level domains, the dashboard and getting started.

Administrators additionally get zones, DNS records, certificates, provider connections, hosted zones, application products and settings.

If an area described here is missing from your navigation, you do not have access to it, and it is not something you can switch on yourself. Ask an administrator on your account.

Start here

Getting your portfolio in. Start with Registrars, then Domain names. With many domains, import them from a file rather than adding them one at a time. These are available to everyone.

Setting up DNS, as an administrator. Read From a new account to a working certificate. It walks the whole path in order.

Asked to create an AWS role, and you want to know what you are granting before you do? Connecting AWS without giving away more than you want to explains what each permission buys and what withholding it costs.

Something looks wrong. Why is this not working covers the states people most often misread. Several of them are not faults.

How the pieces fit

A registrar is where you bought a domain. Flexi Domains keeps a record of your registrars so it knows where each domain lives.

A domain name is one entry in your portfolio.

A provider connection is the credential that lets Flexi Domains work in your AWS account. Everything below it depends on one.

A zone holds the DNS records for a domain. Zones are read through your connections rather than stored here.

A certificate is a TLS certificate issued in your account, for a domain whose zone Flexi Domains can reach.
